Why recruit workers from Tuvalu?

Tuvaluan workers have a strong track record of working in labour mobility programs in both Australia and New Zealand.  

They have qualifications and skills across a range of industries relevant to Australian employers and are especially known throughout the world for their maritime skills. Thousands of Tuvaluans work abroad as seamen, cooks and marine engineers. 

How to recruit workers from Tuvalu

To recruit workers from Tuvalu under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme, an Australian employer must be approved as a PALM scheme employer.

Alternatively, an employer may wish to engage workers through a PALM scheme approved labour hire company.

PALM scheme employers can recruit workers through the work-ready pool at the Department of Labour. The Department is part of the Tuvalu Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Trade, Tourism, Environment and Labour.

How to join the PALM scheme as a worker

Citizens of participating countries must apply to join the PALM scheme through the labour sending unit in their country.

Citizens of Tuvalu should contact the Department of Labour by email at (meafou.brian@gmail.com) or (tellyfinauga@gmail.com).

You do not need to pay or give gifts to anyone to join the PALM scheme. If you have been offered a job in the PALM scheme, your employer will pay for your flights and some other costs up front so you can travel to Australia. You will need to gradually repay your employer for these costs once you start earning a wage.
